The Middle Ages were a time of changes as societies became centrally controlled by feudal kingdoms. Discussion will center on English political, social and cultural history from Alfred the Great to the Wars of the Roses. Topical histories may include fascinating stories from the reigns of William the Conqueror, Henry II, Richard I, Henry V and Richard III. We will also examine everyday life of the nobility and the peasantry during these tumultuous times.


Instructor Jack Thornton has taught western civilization with an emphasis on European history for more than 40 years. He taught Advanced Placement European history at Valley High School and was an adjunct instructor at DMACC West. Jack holds degrees from Doane College and the University of Nebraska and has enjoyed his many teaching experiences with Senior College
