Alfred Hitchcock in England
Five Sessions: November 7, 14, 21, 28; December 5
Time: Tuesdays, 10 AM-12:30 PM
Location: Deerfield Retirement Community, 13731 Hickman Rd., Urbandale
Class Limit: 50
This class will involve five films directed by Alfred Hitchcock before he moved to the US: The Lodger (1926), Blackmail (1929), The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934), The 39 Steps (1935), and The Lady Vanishes (1938). Discussion will focus on those aspects of his work that earned him the title “Master of Suspense” and the way suspense develops in these films. Each session will involve preparatory remarks by the instructor and screening of an entire film followed by class discussion.
Instructor Carl Johnson has had a long career in music education, most notably as director of the Des Moines Community Orchestra; however, he is also a film buff and eager to share his love for the master cinematic director.
