Principles of Paleontology

This will be an introductory course examining  the scientific principles and basic biological and geological concepts that allow us to study the ancient life (fossils) of Earth throughout its 4.6 billion-year history. Class structure will consist of a PowerPoint lecture introducing the topic, followed by a lab exercise utilizing fossils.


Instructor Cory Redman has a PhD from Texas A&M University with a research emphasis on vertebrate paleontology, using the fossil record to study how environmental disturbances affect the diversity  of an ecosystem. He has extensive experience in paleontology and has conducted field research throughout North America, England and Uzbekistan. He has taught college classes on paleontology, historical geology, sedimentology/stratigraphy and human anatomy.
