Folktales and Songs of the Ancestors

Although folktales and songs were in existence for centuries before their recording began, many have survived through the oral transfer from generation to generation. Maureen will discuss the history and characteristics of folktales and recite stories, some in their native accents. Instrumentalists will perform folk songs which originated in Europe and other areas and were then carried to the American shores.
Instructor Maureen Korte professional storyteller, earned a BA in English literature from the University of Iowa and did graduate work at East Tennessee University. Maureen has traveled widely to familiarize herself with various cultures and acquire storytelling authenticity. Maureen has also taught storytelling to various professional groups as a means of better connecting with their clients. Maureen is a member of the National Storytelling Association as well as many area and state storytelling groups.
