Christine Hensley served a record 24 years on the Des Moines City Council, representing the city’s south, west and downtown areas. During that time her decisions played a role in the development of  $2.5 billion in city projects. Christine will explain how a resident can bring an item of business before the council and how that matter can become law. Strategic planning, financial concerns, infrastructure, neighborhoods, sustainable communities and downtown living will be among topics of interest.

 

Instructor Christine Hensley is a lifetime resident of Des Moines and graduate of Drake University. Retired from Bank of the West as regional community and government affairs officer, she has been a member of numerous civic and community groups. Former council member Hensley has been honored with membership in the Iowa League of Cities Hall of Fame and the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame.
