Alfred Hitchcock Meets WWII

 

Four Sessions: Fridays, Nov. 2, 9, 16, 30; 10 AM-12:30 PM

This class will examine four Hitchcock films related to World War II, including Lifeboat, which was nominated for 3 Oscars. Discussion will focus on those aspects of his filmmaking that earned him the title “Master of Suspense” and how his films were influenced by the outbreak of the war. Each session will involve preparatory remarks by the instructor and viewing an entire film, followed by class discussion.

 

 

Instructor Carl Johnson has had a distinguished career in music education, most notably as director of the Des Moines Community Orchestra; however, he is also a film buff and eager to share his love for the master cinematic director.
